Give your home a fresh update at a pocket-friendly price with the Mark Tuckey + Cotton On collection. Cotton on and Mark Tuckey have collaborated to create homewares that capture a stylish yet relaxed lifestyle. The beautiful offering exists as an accessible collection of pieces for use in living and dining areas, kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms with storage options, too! (Head to the end of the article to browse a gallery of some of the range). We caught up with Louella Tuckey, to get her tips for decorating your home on a budget.

1. DON’T CLUTTER
Only include what you really want; don’t clutter your space with things just because they are there.

2. COLOUR BLOCK
Colour blocking always clarifies a space. I love to colour block book collections — I remember books by their cover and colour so it makes sense to me to store them by colour.

3 TIMELESS BASICS
Try to keep a timeless feel to the basics, then you can add ‘trend’ in over the top with interchangeable pieces like cushions and throws.

4 KEEP ELEMENTS TO A MINIMUM
It’s all about being able to clearly ‘read’ a space. If you throw in too many elements, you confuse the eye. You might use timber and a background colour such as white, then coloured objects dotted around. The coloured objects will read clearly against the white backdrop and the timber will define the space. Or, you might decide it’s all about white, in which case that’s your base colour and texture becomes the detail.
Perhaps you choose a dark theme where the main elements are all dark – dark upholstery, dark timber and dark floor rugs. Texture will be important, as will balancing one texture against another so that they don’t fight, which is crucial. You need to allow each piece to hold its own.

5. LIVE WITH WHAT YOU LOVE
This is the most important tip of all – live with what you love. Your home should tell a story of who you are, what you feel, where you’ve been and what you love to do.

Louella states: “We wanted to create a really useable collection featuring natural materials like cotton, linen, wool and timber. The concept of Mark Tuckey + Cotton On is in line with our core business objective, to create products that we love and want in our own home. This new partnership echoes that same passion.”
